About CES

Calistoga Elementary SchoolLocated on a beautifully landscaped campus in the heart of town, Calistoga Elementary School (CES) offers rich and challenging educational programs to meet the needs of every student. As the only public elementary school in our culturally rich, rural community, CES is small enough (with four hundred and forty students) to provide personal attention to each student, yet large enough to offer a comprehensive educational program. The caring, highly qualified educational staff promotes student achievement through differentiated instruction and curriculum based on the rigorous California State Standards. Every classroom uses standards-based materials and students are assessed on language arts and math standards regularly. Instructional strategies are adjusted based on identified student need. A standards-based report card is used to ensure that parents are aware of specific student progress relative to the state standards.

In addition to the academic core, the CES program evidences a strong commitment to providing all students with a broad array of curricular exposuredesigned to provide a well-rounded education. Students receive art, nutrition, physical education, band, choir and focused computer instruction from qualified teachers and specialists. An active student council and GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program provides students with opportunities to explore leadership and to practice creativity and higher level thinking skills. The school garden provides hands-on environmental lessons. All students participate in educational field trips. The adopted outdoor education program begins in the 4th grade and culminates with a weeklong outdoor educational adventure to Yosemite National Park in the 6th grade year. Student success is fostered through a strong system of academic support, both during, and after the regular school day.

CES students and teachers enjoy a strong community support system, including the Calistoga Education Foundation, Calistoga Elementary PTA, Calistoga Wildcat Boosters Association and the Calistoga Music and Arts Boosters. These community stakeholders, combined with the local service clubs, provide lots of ;extra” resources to support field trips, innovative program ideas, and a full range of instructional materials and program options.
